The Youth Community Informatics research has engaged with community youth groups and youth leaders in Chicago, Champaign-Urbana, East St. Louis, Rantoul, Cass County, and other sites. A draft activity guide consisting of inquiry units has been developed.

In other news:

  • Students from the group submitted a proposal for a session at the upcoming iSchools conference in February 2009.
  • Dr. Martin Wolske presented a paper on the group’s work at the Community Informatics Research Network in Prato, Italy, in October 2008.
  • Three Champaign Centennial High School students produced a three-part radio series addressing the topic of poverty in their community with the help of GSLIS student and former reporter Moustafa Ayad.
  • The YCI group designed and launched a website , which makes use of mapping tools and the new iLabs 4.
