While we occasionally post listings for jobs that seem to be a good fit for CI interests, some of our favorite places to look for listings for jobs, volunteer opportunities, and internships are:

Library Job Postings on the Internet

This site is a comprehensive library job site where the user can search for jobs by state, library district or job type.

ALA JobLIST

Job site managed by the American Library Association (ALA).

LIBJOBS

LIBJOBS is an Internet mailing list for employment opportunities for librarians and information professionals. Subscribers receive only posted job opportunities. Managed by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA).

Metropolitan Library System

The Metropolitan Library System is a member organization of academic, public, school, and special libraries in Chicago and suburban communities in Cook, DuPage and Will counties. This site features a database of internships and full and part -time job openings at member libraries.

NPO.net

An online resource for the Chicago area nonprofit community, their Jobs Service provides a categorical job search directory.

Job Bank

The Center for Nonprofit Success has created a Job Bank for nonprofit leaders who are looking to post jobs or find jobs. Wecreated the job bank in response to many requests from people around the country for a place to post or find nonprofit jobs.Please feel free to check out the job bank, and forward it to people who might be interested in using it.

Idealist.org

Listing site of volunteer opportunities searchable by zip code and interest area.

Communication Initiative Partnership regularly posts job listings in communication and media related to social and economic development.

Internships

The following internship opportunities are positions that fit the skills and areas of interest that a Community Informatics student might have. Most of these opportunities can be found at http://www.idealist.org or other sites. Some positions are computer or new media-focused, some are youth or education-focused and others focus on a broad range of community-renewal initiatives. In addition, the Americorps VISTA program offers year-long paid positions in communities across America with a community development focus: www.americorps.org.

Follow this link to find 2009 internship opportunities on the Illinois Informatics Institute Web site. Most of these opportunities are technology-related, but the positions are diverse. Host organizations include One Laptop Per Child, Microsoft, Facebook, Yahoo and other companies in the technology, insurance, manufacturing and defense industries.

Youth-Serving Programs at Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club
The Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club in Champaign is accepting interns at this time for several positions. Those interested in gaining experience in the areas of youth development, youth programs and related administrative processes in a non-profit environment might consider applying for a position. Metro Chicago Information Center (MCIC) is a not-for-profit research
consulting firm that provides information to enhance program and planning
decisions made by civic, social service and philanthropic organizations
and individuals working to improve social conditions and quality of life.
MCIC's team of researchers conduct needs assessments and use
